Mastering the Art of French Cooking

A Drumms Blog Article

I spotted this collection of images on Design Sponge (one of the best interiors blogs ever!) and also saw that VIKING picked it up and posted it on Facebook.  This collection of images has been inspired by the film Jules & Julia.  A film I watched over Christmas and was dying to see.  It’s a Nora Ephron story  about Julia Child; a loud and charming, pearl wearing, high heeled American in Paris in the 1950s who writes an English book about French Food.....Mastering the Art of French Cooking.  Unfortunately, the film is rubbish.  But it looks great!  And I love the ‘retro’ look you can get with the new Viking colours.  In the above picture is the traditional Range, but the new Custom version, with its stainless steel knobs, and slightly more streamlined finish, looks even better.  There is a sage (colour shown) one in the showroom at the moment, complete with brass and steel finishes....well worth a look.

I was given a wonderfully battered (no pun intended) copy of Julia Child’s book many years ago by a great Sailor, who has since passed away...but that’s a story for another day.  The book is one of my favourite possessions and is a great store of foodie information.  One of my favourite recipes is on page 69, Soup de Poisson.  It’s a fish soup, but strained, has pasta cooked in it in the end, and is finished with crunchy Rouille (spicy chilli mayo) toasts and shaved parmesan on top.  It’s one of the most delicious things I’ve ever eaten, and of course, tastes better on a sunny day, and even better in France!  I’ll put this recipe in the Cookery School section for you to try.  Trust Julia, it’s worth it.

I was very pleased to see that Irish Kitchens and Bathrooms voted the new VIKING custom Range in their top 10 of must have ‘hot designs’  for 2010.
